Tony Blair ‘celebrity’ convert, goes to Westminster Cathedral as part of The Cardinal’s Lectures 2008 series. Tony Blair who has been a persuasive advocate for war and is widely credited with spearheading Britain’s entry into the immensely unpopular war against Iraq amongst other wars, attracts a noisy peace demonstration organised by Stop the War Coalition who creates a wall of sound from outside to accompany his lecture on “Faith and Globalisation” inside the London Roman Catholic Cathedral. Also, Pax Christi, a member of a worldwide Catholic movement for peace, holds a Silent Vigil at the same time in the peace protest.
At the end of the lecture some of the peace campaigners are waiting for Tony Blair’s car to leave from a back exit from Westminster Cathedral property. These demonstrators are pushed back in stages well away from Tony Blair’s escape route and contained, by the Territorial Support Group (TSG) special Metropolitan Police, thus saving Blair from having to see and listen to these peaceful protesters. London, UK, 3rd April 2008
Territorial Support Group, TSG were brought in at the end of the demonstration, a specialist and robust (to say the least) police, service.
