Somalilanders rally to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of Somaliland independence, since it withdrew from the union with Somalia after 30 years of oppression. The Somalilanders are also campaigning for recognition by the British government, of the Republic of Somaliland, as a sovereign state. A theme for this year’s Somaliland anniversary celebrations is its democratic achievements, in the Horn of Africa. The rally is part of a international Somaliland celebration.
