Stella Assange speaks to the large crowds of supporters outside the Royal Courts of Justice after the journalist Julian Assange wins right to appeal against extradition to US. The sense of her relief is apparent now that her husband will not be extradited at this time. The journalist has been granted leave to mount a fresh appeal against his extradition to the US on charges of leaking military secrets such as US war crimes. Assange’s defence will now be able to challenge the ill-defined American assurances. The assurances required by the court are that he would be permitted to rely on the first amendment of the US constitution, which protects freedom of speech; that he would not be prejudiced at trial due to his nationality.
