Claremont Hotel, a fine Victorian seafront building dating from the 1850s, was destroyed in a fire on Friday 22nd of November 2019. The fire started around 08:50am when most guests were having breakfast. All guests, and members of staff evacuated the building and no one was injured. The remaining building facade is believed to be possibly unstable and the owners Daish's Holidays with the local authorities and emergency services are deciding how to deal with it.
