Care4Calais have arranged a talk for the audience formed from the remaining people involved with Convoy to Calais in the early evening on a farm. Guest speakers are invited refugees from various countries to answer questions and talk from a stage about their backgrounds, situation now, and thoughts about living in the refugee camp in Calais (so called ‘Jungle’). The people in the audience with cameras are requested not to photograph the refugee speakers by a charity volunteer, because it might adversely effect their prospects, it is suggested. Behind the audience is the pleasant pastoral Picardie countryside. Just over the nearby horizon is the English Canal (La Manche), behind the forbidding sea is England where the refugees would seemingly wish to go. However (if misconstrued) so confused and worried is the United Kingdom about immigration and the refugee situation, a few days later it votes to leave the EU even though this probably will entail England becoming a poor third world country.
