Salt marshes

The salterns of Guérande where salt has been harvested since the Iron Age. For the Romans these salt marshes were important after the early 3rd century, the time of the Roman conquest. The salt marshes were developed further from 945 by the Monks Landévennec Abbey, producing the layout and methods, similar to what we see today. The salt trade brought great prosperity to the area historically Brittany (now the region is renamed Pays de la Loire!) Marais salants de Guérande et du Més, France, 12/10/2018
