Water Strider

Water strider, gerridae, walking on water surface tension. Another curious effect is the shapes of the shadows cast on the ground under the water, which seems not to represent the shape of the insect. However the water surface becomes distorted by a water strider’s legs pressure on the water surface, the light is refracted by the curved transparent water surface, like a lens, and a dark shadow surrounded by a bright ring forms beneath it, which has a measurable relationship to the size, wait and distance of the insect.
